Mr Dickson teaches the following classes:
Journalism: In this course students will produce a school newspaper that will be distributed to the students and the community. Staff members will be responsible for the interviewing, writing, editing, layout, photography, and ad sales needed for this publication. Students will work on the newspaper throughout the whole school year.
Web Journalism: In this class students will produce articles that will be submitted for public view on the PLHS website. Students will be responsible for interviewing, writing, editing, layout, and photography needed for submission on the website. After the students are approved by Dickson and the principal, the articles will then be submitted.
Literature Through Film: This course is designed to expose students to important works of literature they might ordinarly not read through film. Emphasis will be placed on understanding plot, analyzing character and theme, and comprehending the films' historical and social significance. A variety of literary styles will be covered. Because of the nature of the class, regular attendance will be crucial.
Mythology: This classical myths of Greece and Rome provide the core of this course. Students read and compare these tales with those of other cultures such as far eastern and medieval. They also study modern-day examples of mythological influence and folk tales of various types, including fairy tales, stories of regional folk heroes, and Kansas' folklore.
Multimedia Design: In this course students will work on designing a web page for public view. Students will work with video production, pod casting, streaming video, powerpoint and flash. All information on the web page must be in compliance with district policies and approved by the instructor.
