All About Mrs.Lesser!!

“No two days are the same, and I love to see students get it,” Rita Lesser said when asked about her favorite things about teaching. Lesser has been teaching FACS classes for 23 years at Perry Lecompton High School . Lesser has started at Perry Lecompton ever since she got out of college and plans to retire from Perry Lecompton High School.

Lesser graduated from Shawnee High School and went to Kansas State University where she got her teaching degree. She later went back to school and got her Masters at Baker University along with taking random classes at KU and Emporia.

Lesser started teaching at Perry Lecompton High School because of the size of the school and to be closer to home. Lesser teaches all of the FACS classes because she loves the content that changed during the years. Lesser loves that no two students are the same and there is a Constance new. Her favorite class to teach is any textile class even through all of the state papers work, profile sheets, and budget constraints.

“Paper work and changes from the state is the stressful thing about my job,” said Lesser “Sharing what I know and talking to the kids is the least.” Even through stress time she has time to spend with her family.

Lesser will be celebrating her 25 wedding anniversary with her husband Chris on July 28. They have three children: Ashley, Josh, and Adam. Josh will be graduating from K-State in May and is currently teaching at Fort Riley . Adam is also going to K-State to further his education. Her daughter Ashley goes to Shawnee High just like she did.

When Lesser is not at work, she spends her time doing different activities in her church and around the community. She plays the piano and keyboard at her church and is very involved with 4-H. When Lesser retires she plans on getting a second job either in a school system helping people or being a janitor because she likes to clean. She also would love to have her own restaurant.

Lesser plans on retiring from Perry with many different memories from the past: She will never forget the wall in her room catching on fire or when the whole school had to be stuck in there for three to five hours later because of a tornado warning. Lesser will never forget being teacher of the year or taking a student to New Orleans.

Lesser isn't just a teacher she is an inspiration to her peers. After 23 years of being at Perry Lecompton High School , there isn't a day that goes by that she doesn't enjoy her job as a FACS teacher.
