Nutrition and Wellness: .5 units Description: This course is designed to expose students to a variety of topics that are essential when addressing personal and family well-being. The students will explore how life style choices impact physical, social, and emotional health. This course will also help the students gain a basic understanding of how to store, choose, acquire, and prepare foods to meet nutrition and wellness needs of individuals and families.spoon and forkAdvance Foods: .5 units Description: This course is designed to further develop knowledge of food and preparation skills, Areas to be studied include food preservation, meats, fish, poultry, yeast breads, soups and casseroles, candies, and specialty foods.


Life Skills: .5 units Description: This course will focus on the management of one's resources to achieve personal and family goals, make informed consumer decisions, create financial stability and to maintain a healthy living environment.


Responsible Parenting: .5 units Description: This course is designed to expose the students to parenting practice that will foster the physical, intellectual, and social growth of children. Strong parenting skills are critical in today's world and the effect of these skills impacts home, employment and community situations.

Today's Family: .5 units Description: In this course, students will evaluate the significance of personal life choices (determined by normal and unexpected life changes) and how these choices impact the well-belong of family, career and society life. Students will examine what is involved in making these choices so that they can make healthy choices that will have a positive impact on the family, work-force and the community.

Textiles and Design I: .5 units Description: Students will learn the basic concepts of clothing including label laws, consumer rights, fabric construction, and clothing construction. Students will demonstrate basic hand sewing skills, pattern knowledge, and sewing machine operation as they complete a variety of samples and projects throughout the semester.

Textile and Design II: .5 units Description: Students will be working independently to increase their skills in clothing and textiles. Each students will analyze his/her wardrobe, decide what changes or adPink Dressditions need to be made, and select projects to fit his/her wants and needs. All students will use the serge and the press for at lease one project.Exploration of FACS: This 8th grade course will help students discover the skills, knowledge, attitudes,

and behaviors necessary to be successful in families, careers, and communities in today's ever changing society. As an exploratory course students will have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of topics that will begin to prepare them for their future roles as family members, wage earners, and community leaders as well as create a foundation for further study at the high school level. Areas of study will include Personal Growth, Health and Wellness; Consumer Skills and Life Management; Family and Relationship Skills; Nutritional Needs, Food Choices, and Basic Food Preparation; and Fashion Choices, Clothing Care, and Construction Basics.
